Barney is a Master Mariner with 16 years in the marine industry.
Before joining Shoreside Law he had a 13-year seagoing career, working across Europe, the Americas, Africa and Asia, and with a particular focus on the offshore sector. He has sailed in all ranks from Cadet to Captain.
His time at sea was followed by three years at a marine consultancy as warranty surveyor, auditor, and project engineer.
Barney is primarily involved with the investigation and handling of marine casualties, and the evidence and claims / disputes which emanate from them.

- Casualties involving vessel collisions, cargo damage, fire, and disputes over third-party property damage
- Represented owners and crew members following major maritime casualties, liaising with maritime investigators and local law enforcement authorities
- Resolving a prolonged dispute concerning severe engine failure
- In-depth analysis of Voyage Data Recorders (VDRs) and other electronic evidence
