Chris has extensive experience in marine, trade and energy matters in the Commercial Court and arbitration, with a focus on shipping. He provides advice to a range of clients on contractual disputes arising from charterparties and bills of lading, coverage issues, MOA disputes and cargo claims.

Prior to joining Shoreside, Chris worked in London for an international shipping law firm for over 10 years. Whilst there, he spent time on secondment to an oil major, and conducted a review of its standard charterparty terms to comply with the recent global sulphur regulations. As such, Chris has particular experience in the tanker market, and has advised on complex bunker disputes and speed and performance claims.

In the rest of his practice, Chris works for a wide range of clients, to include shipowners, charterers, ports and their insurers.

Chris is dual qualified in England & Wales and in Greece.

RECENT EXPERIENCE:

  • Acting for owners in concurrent LMAA references in complex multi-jurisdictional dispute against charterers arising from dangerous cargo and in defence of associated cargo claims;
  • Acting for charterers in High Court and Court of Appeal proceedings in relation to disputes under various contracts of affreightment;
  • Acting for owners in an unsafe port claim and associated arrest proceedings;
  • Acting for charterers in a contaminated cargo claim and subsequent on sale arrangements.
